Provocative online content threatening law and order in Tamil Nadu: MK Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday emphasised the growing threat posed by provocative and inciting content on social media, warning that such content is increasingly jeopardising the state’s law and order situation.
Speaking at the Southern States DGP Coordination Conference in Chennai, Stalin highlighted the need for a unified approach to tackle this and other critical security issues.
“Provocative content on social media is becoming a serious threat to maintaining peace in the state. These posts aim to disrupt public order, but our government has acted swiftly to neutralise such attempts and has taken stern action against offenders,” Stalin said.
The conference brought together top police officials from Tamil Nadu to address pressing matters such as narcotics, cybercrime, and interstate criminal activities. In his address, Stalin underlined the importance of collective efforts to ensure public safety.
Highlighting Tamil Nadu’s efforts to curb the drug menace, the Chief Minister pointed to the success in eradicating Ganja cultivation in the state. Stalin also credited the Tamil Nadu Police for their sustained efforts in controlling the supply and sale of narcotic substances, adding that the fight against drug-related crimes requires the cooperation of neighbouring states.
“The assets and networks of narcotic offenders often span multiple states. Therefore, coordinated action is essential. We seek the cooperation of all state police forces to arrest criminals and continue investigations beyond our borders,” he said.
Further in his address, Stalin also raised concerns over the illegal production of illicit liquor, revealing that Tamil Nadu police had recently uncovered units blending rectified spirits smuggled from other states.
He called for stronger surveillance and technology-driven solutions, such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and advanced scanners at state borders, to curb the smuggling of contraband.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the rise in interstate criminal activities, revealing that 1,390 cases in 2023 involved accused persons from outside Tamil Nadu. He stressed the importance of cooperation between states in addressing such cases.
“Strengthening cooperation is key to tackling threats like extremism and terrorism, and I call on all officials here to enhance coordination in this regard,” he said.
